About The Position

The Substation Apprentice / Construction Electrician position at Southern Company involves working in the Substation Construction and Maintenance Department. The role is focused on the construction, installation, maintenance, and operation of electrical substations and related equipment within the distribution system. This includes handling various electrical components and systems, ensuring safe and efficient operations while adhering to safety protocols.

Requirements

• Two-year technical degree in Electricity, Electronic Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Construction & Maintenance, or Electrical/Mechanical is preferred.
• Experience with electrical and mechanical systems is a plus.
• Ability to read and understand technical drawings and manuals.
• Proficient in operating construction and maintenance equipment and tools.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with substation-related technology and computers is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Construct, install, maintain, and operate electrical substations and similar equipment.
• Handle conduit, cabling systems, switchboard equipment, and power system equipment such as breakers, regulators, transformers, and switches.
• Utilize drawings/prints and instruction manuals for construction and maintenance tasks.
• Operate construction and maintenance equipment, including bucket trucks and oil processing equipment.
• Perform switching, obtain clearances, and ensure site safety for work activities.
