Substation Apprentice Electrician (Conyers & Plant Vogtle)

About the position

The Substation Apprentice Electrician position is a training role designed to equip individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to become a Journeyman Electrician. This role involves hands-on training in the maintenance and operation of substation facilities, including power circuit breakers, transformers, and various mechanical systems. The position offers a structured training program lasting approximately 3-4 years, leading to potential advancement within the company.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and operate power circuit breakers and substation equipment.
• Perform maintenance and repair on large power transformers.
• Read and interpret equipment prints and wiring diagrams.
• Install and commission new substation equipment.
• Conduct live line work using hot sticks and gloving methods.
• Engage in plumbing, carpentry, rigging, sheet metal work, calibration, machining, and welding as needed.

Requirements

• Entry-level position with a desire for experience in electrical and mechanical systems.
• Two-year technical degree in Electronics, Electricity, Electronic Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or related fields is highly desired.
• Ability to read and understand procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Basic understanding of transformer theory and motor basics (single-phase and three-phase).
• Knowledge of electrical symbols, wiring diagrams, and control schematics.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with basic transformer theory and electrical maintenance techniques.
• Familiarity with precision measuring tools and scales.
