About the position

Ulteig Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Substation Design Engineer to support various Renewables, Utility, and Power projects. The role involves developing and reviewing utility substation drawings and ensuring they meet engineering standards and client specifications. The engineer will be involved in detailed design work, including design calculations and the selection of protective relay and automation equipment, while also coordinating project aspects with the team.

Responsibilities

• Develop and review utility substation drawings including General Arrangements, Elevations, and Cable and Conduit Plans.
• Conduct detailed design work and development of design calculations.
• Select and implement protective relay and automation equipment.
• Resolve design problems, potentially through field investigations or observations.
• Coordinate specific design aspects of projects, planning, scheduling, and communicating work with the team.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of engineering experience in electrical power substations.
• Experience with physical design or protection and control design of substations.
• Ability to review and produce design drawings including AC/DC schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Knowledge of National Electric Code (NEC) and National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Nice-to-haves

• Passed the EIT exam.
• Experience using ground grid modeling software.
• Knowledge of substation protection and control schemes.
• Knowledge of Rural Utilities Service (RUS) design guide.
