About the position

The Substation Drafter position at Leidos Engineering involves drafting design packages and documents for electric power substations. The role requires adherence to accepted practices and standards to ensure high-quality and safe drafting documents. The drafter will work within a Project Management Office (PMO) that provides consulting services to electric utilities, focusing on engineering design for transmission and distribution projects. The position offers opportunities for skill development in Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) and collaboration with experienced designers and engineers.

Responsibilities

• Complete drafting assignments on Protection & Control, SCADA, and Communications drawings including Single Line Diagrams, Schematics, and Control Building Layouts.
• Draft Physical Electrical drawings such as General Arrangement, Electrical Plans, and Structural Details.
• Support remote office overflow CAD workload as needed, coordinating with other CAD leads.
• Modify drawings based on engineer-provided markups with attention to detail.

Requirements

• High school education or equivalent.
• Minimum of 1+ year of relevant substation-specific drafting and detailing experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
• Knowledge of drafting principles, techniques, and procedures.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills within a team environment.
• Highly organized and efficient.

Nice-to-haves

• Associates Degree in design, drafting, or a similar field.
• Experience with 3-D modelling in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
• Proficiency with Windows XP/VISTA/7 operating systems.
• Knowledge of VBA and/or AutoLisp.
• Previous exposure to EPC Substation projects for US electric utilities.
