About the position

The Substation Drafter will be an integral part of the Substation Group, responsible for preparing structural and electrical drawings for energy infrastructure projects. This role involves collaboration with engineers and consultants to create detailed drawings for high voltage equipment, structures, foundations, and electrical schematics, contributing to various phases of project planning and execution.

Responsibilities

  • CAD drafting of all engineering products and deliverables.
  • Collaborate with engineers and other drafters to correct discrepancies in drawings and designs.
  • Draft substation layouts, sections, structural and foundation details, bill of materials, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Update documentation including checklists, drawing lists, conduit schedules, circuit schedules, drawing requests, and project tracking in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Self-check all work performed to ensure accuracy before submission for review.
  • Understand and meet project schedule and quality requirements.
  • Complete drawings accurately and quickly.
  • Maintain attention to detail and quality.
  • Handle multiple projects concurrently and adapt to changes in work assignments.
  • Actively assist in project delivery, including correspondence and attending meetings as required.
  • Provide interdepartmental support as needed.

Requirements

  • Proficient in AutoCAD.
  • Ability to utilize both 2D and 3D applications to prepare engineering drawings.
  • Basic knowledge in design, calculations, and design systems.
  • Knowledge of protection and controls (P&C).
  • Understanding of substation vernacular.
  • Basic knowledge in the theory and practices of engineering discipline.
  • Capability to operate discipline design software necessary to execute production tasks.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-discipline project team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Microstation experience.
  • Revit experience.
  • Inventor experience.
  • Understanding of terms like base mapping and right of way.
