About the position

The Substation Drafter position at Leidos Engineering involves drafting design packages and documents for electric power substations. The role requires adherence to accepted practices and standards to ensure high-quality and safe drafting documents. The position is remote-capable, with a preference for candidates who can commute to specific office locations. The drafter will work within a Project Management Office, providing consulting services to electric utilities and collaborating closely with design engineers in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Complete drafting assignments on Protection & Control, SCADA, and Communications drawings including Single Line Diagrams, Schematics, and Control Building Layouts.
  • Complete drafting assignments on Physical Electrical drawings including General Arrangement, Electrical Plans, and Structural Details.
  • Support remote office overflow CAD workload as needed, coordinating with other CAD leads.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1+ year of relevant substation-specific drafting and detailing experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of drafting principles, techniques, and procedures.
  • Ability to create and/or modify drawings from engineer-provided markups with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized and efficient.
  • Ability to comprehend and implement a wide range of client CAD standards.
  • Ability to perform tasks in a fast-paced engineering/production environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associates Degree in design, drafting, or a similar field.
  • Experience with 3-D modelling in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency with Windows XP/VISTA/7 operating systems.
  • Knowledge of VBA and/or AutoLisp.
  • Previous exposure to EPC Substation projects for US electric utilities.
