About the position

The Substation Electrical EIT/Coordinator at HDR is responsible for conducting analyses, preparing engineering documents, and providing field construction support for electrical substations. This role involves developing design options, reviewing engineering documents, and assisting in the preparation of cost estimates and specifications. The position requires collaboration with designers and CADD technicians to ensure compliance with national design standards and project specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct analyses to develop design options or recommendations.
  • Review engineering documents and drawings, providing revisions as necessary.
  • Provide field construction support and assist in the preparation of cost estimates and specifications.
  • Prepare engineering drawings, calculations, analyses, reports, and designs for electrical substations.
  • Develop design deliverables including one-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Conduct site visits during the design, construction, and as-built phases of projects.
  • Perform routine electrical engineering assignments using client and industry standards.
  • Complete projects with clear, specified objectives and limited variables.
  • Work independently on small projects or assist more-senior engineers on larger projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant in the employee-owned culture.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
  • Internship/co-op experience in power, utilities, renewables, and/or construction industries.
  • Experience using electrical design software such as SKM PowerTools, ETAP, or EasyPower.
  • Desire to pursue growth opportunities and obtain CA PE registration.
  • Interest in engaging in technical and industry groups (IEEE, NAPE, EPRI, etc.).
