About the position

As an Electrical Engineer at Sargent & Lundy, you will have the opportunity to leverage and enhance your academic background in Electrical Engineering. This entry-level position is designed for recent graduates who are eager to apply their knowledge in a practical setting. You will be part of project teams that focus on the design of new high voltage and extra-high voltage substations and transmission systems. Your role will involve engaging in power transmission designs and preparing specifications for the procurement of major electrical power equipment and related installation services. In this position, you will collaborate with other electrical engineers, gaining hands-on experience in the field. You will also have the potential to travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews, as well as to site locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs. This exposure will not only enhance your technical skills but also provide you with valuable insights into the operational aspects of electrical engineering projects.

Responsibilities

  • Work on project teams with other electrical engineers involved in the design of new high voltage and extra-high voltage substations and transmission systems.
  • Engage in power transmission designs and prepare specifications for the procurement of major electrical power equipment and related installation services.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure project designs meet client specifications and industry standards.
  • Participate in design reviews at client and vendor offices and coordinate construction activities at site locations.
  • Conduct field verification of designs to ensure compliance with project requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
  • Strong academic background with coursework in electrical power concepts and AC power systems analysis.
  • Understanding of the practical application of electrical engineering and technology, including systems, principles, techniques, and procedures relevant to project design.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and designation as an Engineer in Training.
  • Related engineering internship or co-op work experience.
