Substation Electrical Engineer

About the position

The Substation Electrical Engineer at Paxon Energy will play a crucial role in the design, analysis, and optimization of electrical substations. This position involves collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure the safety, stability, and reliability of electrical infrastructure, contributing to high-voltage electrical projects and sustainable energy solutions.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed designs for electrical substations considering voltage levels, equipment specifications, and safety standards.
• Select and specify appropriate electrical equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, and protective relays based on project requirements.
• Manage and coordinate substation projects from conception to completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
• Develop testing procedures and oversee the commissioning process for new or upgraded substation equipment.
• Implement maintenance programs for substation equipment to ensure reliability and longevity.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations governing substation design and operation.
• Implement safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for substation personnel.
• Create and maintain documentation related to substation design and performance.
• Provide training to substation personnel on equipment operation and safety protocols.
• Develop emergency response plans for substation incidents.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering or a related field with a focus on electrical engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical engineering, focusing on high-voltage substations.
• Proven experience in the design and analysis of substation design, including maintenance, testing, and commissioning.
• Proficiency in electrical engineering principles and software such as AutoCAD, ETAP, PSCAD, or similar tools.
• Strong understanding of relevant industry codes and standards, including IEEE, IEC, ASCE, and ACI.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
• Effective communication skills for technical documentation and project coordination.

Nice-to-haves

• Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification in electrical engineering.
