About the position

POWER Engineers is seeking a Substation Engineer to join the Power Delivery Substation Department in Portland, Oregon. This role involves designing complex utility substations while adhering to client standards and processes. The position offers flexibility for a hybrid work environment, allowing remote work from mutually acceptable locations.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to client standards and processes while working independently and within a team to design complex utility substations
  • Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to extra-high voltage substations, including one-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring diagrams
  • Design protection & control, SCADA, and communications systems
  • Create physical layouts, sections/elevations, and conduit and cable routing
  • Design grounding, lightning protection, and yard lighting systems
  • Size AC/DC systems, design control enclosures, and prepare material lists
  • Participate in quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) programs
  • Support proposal development, site visits, construction, project reporting, mentorship, and client relationships
  • Occasional travel

Requirements

  • BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering), BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology), or BSREE (BS Renewable Energy Engineering) from an accredited university, preferably with a power option
  • Knowledge and understanding of electrical engineering and electrical utility substations, equipment, and design
  • Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills
  • Legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship

Nice-to-haves

  • Three (3) or more years of experience in utility substation design
  • Engineering Intern (EI) certificate, Engineer In Training (EIT) certificate, or passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
  • Professional Engineering license (PE)
  • Experience in 230kV to 500kV systems adhering to IEEE/ANSI standards
  • Ability to lead project teams and manage personnel
  • Proficiency using industry software applications including Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Office 365, Bentley ProjectWise/MicroStation, Autodesk Vault/AutoCAD/AutoCAD Electrical/Inventor, Spatial Business Systems Substation Design Suite
