About the position

POWER Engineers is seeking a mid-level Electrical Engineer specializing in substation protection and control (P&C) design. This role is based in the Power Delivery Substation Department at the Columbus office, with a hybrid work environment available. The engineer will be responsible for the detailed design of utility substations, ensuring compliance with industry standards and effective project management.

Responsibilities

• Perform and direct detailed design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations.
• Create one-line diagrams, elementary and wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, and substation physical layouts.
• Select substation equipment and write substation specifications.
• Develop proposals, construction cost estimates, and project schedules.
• Manage small project teams and ensure concurrent project execution.

Requirements

• BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) degree from an accredited university, preferably with a power option.
• Five or more years of experience in utility substation design, specifically in 15kV through 230kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) registration.
• Strong written and oral communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and clients.
• Legal authorization to work permanently in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Nice-to-haves

• Professional Engineering license (PE).
• Experience in 230kV through 500kV substation design.
