About the position

System One is currently seeking a Substation Physical Designer for a 12-month contract position located in Birmingham, AL. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of electrical substation equipment and experience in Transmission and/or Distribution Substation Operations for an electric power utility company. A good understanding of utility electric grid operations and knowledge of basic electrical power system theory is preferred. The candidate should also have a strong understanding of the National Electric Safety Code, National Electric Code, and OSHA safe operating practices. The Substation Physical Designer will be responsible for creating electrical Substation Physical drawings from single line or three line diagrams. The ability to create and manipulate 2D drawings and 3D models for electrical substations is essential. Experience using 3D modeling software such as SDS Inventor, Autodesk Inventor, or Autodesk 3D (P4A) is preferred, along with AutoCAD training or experience. The role also requires experience working with document management and estimating systems, as well as proficiency in using Primavera (P6) and progress reporting software. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are necessary to communicate technical issues simply. The candidate must be a self-starter with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work well in a team environment. Effective time management and organizational skills are required to manage multiple projects with various priorities and competing deadlines. A customer-focused attitude with a willingness to meet customer needs and solicit feedback is essential. The candidate should also have the ability to mentor others and teach job-related skills. Additionally, the role requires the ability to envision equipment and materials and how they connect spatially inside three-dimensional space. The position may require travel of approximately 25% and the ability to work successfully in a remote/virtual environment with internet access.

Responsibilities

• Create electrical Substation Physical drawings from single line or three line diagrams.

Requirements
