About the position

The Substation Physical Electrical Engineer will be responsible for delivering high voltage electrical substation designs for various projects. This role involves working under the guidance of a Supervising Engineer and collaborating with a multi-discipline team to ensure efficient and reliable designs. The engineer will also assist in project proposals and estimates, while adhering to applicable codes and standards.

Responsibilities

• Prepare substation plan and profile view, grounding, lightning protection, lighting, cable trench, cable trays, conduit layout and detail installation drawings.
• Prepare studies and design calculations such as load flow, short circuit, Arc Flash, grounding, TOV, EMF, transformer sizing, cable sizing using software including WinIGS, ETAP, SKM, CDEGS, CYMCAP.
• Provide percent complete and Estimated Time to Completion when requested by project managers or lead engineers.
• Prepare technical specifications for electrical equipment, evaluate vendor proposals, and review vendor drawings.
• Deliver accurate and thorough designs that meet industry standards and specifications.
• Resolve site queries, attend site meetings, and perform site inspections during the construction phase of projects.
• Maintain complete project documentation with respect to substation design and construction.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 3 years of working experience in high-voltage substation design for renewable developers and electrical utility clients.
• Registered as a PE or meet eligibility criteria.
• Exceptional communication skills for client relations, project team communications, and proposal/report development.
• Employment authorization to work in the United States immediately.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience working in consulting firms.
• Familiarity with design software including AutoCAD and MicroStation.
