About the position

The Substation Physical Team Leader is responsible for leading a team to provide project scoping, conceptual design, and estimating services in support of the Georgia Power transmission capital program. This role involves managing direct reports and contract resources, ensuring safety, and delivering accurate cost estimates for transmission capital projects. The position requires field visits and may involve occasional overnight travel, with a hybrid work schedule based in Metro-Atlanta.

Responsibilities

• Create a safe work environment through personal commitment to safety.
• Manage the selection, development, and performance of direct reports.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for all scoping and estimating requests.
• Establish clear expectations and provide ongoing communication to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Lead team members to apply substation physical engineering expertise for project development and scoping.
• Provide work direction and oversight for supplemental staff and contract resources as needed.
• Participate in and support Southern Company Transmission activities and initiatives.
• Develop and support a strong and effective team environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, preferably in Electrical or Civil Engineering.
• Prior experience in transmission planning, design, construction, operations, or maintenance.
• Experience in substation physical design and project development.
• Proven ability to lead teams and manage performance.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Professional Engineering (P.E.) license.
• Experience with construction estimating and time management.
