About the position

As a Mid-level Structural Design Engineer in the Power Delivery department at Kiewit, you will play a crucial role in supporting all aspects of the construction process. This position involves performing innovative design engineering, which includes brainstorming conceptual designs, conducting and reviewing structural calculations, and developing detailed plans. You will also be responsible for scheduling tasks to meet client needs while ensuring that risks are mitigated to maintain the safety of our construction crews. Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of designs for assigned structures, including research, system selection, analysis, and drawing preparation for electrical substations and transmission lines.
  • Apply department and industry standards when preparing calculations, project drawings, and project specifications.
  • Incorporate the requirements of the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract, customer Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and other contractual requirements to ensure project goals are met or exceeded.
  • Research new markets and adapt current processes and workflows to successfully execute project deliverables.
  • Coordinate with internal and external partners, including cross-discipline teams, construction, vendors, fabricators, and owners to address structural-related issues or concerns.
  • Prepare, monitor, and update project plans, schedules, and budgets, including staffing needs, for project management and department management.
  • Support department managers in achieving performance goals for the department.
  • Apply engineering application software to complete engineering tasks such as foundation and steel structure design.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural engineering from an ABET accredited four-year program.
  • At least 2 years' experience in Structural design engineering in the Power/Industrial industry preferred, but not required.
  • Proficient in utilizing spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and computer operations.
  • Knowledgeable in engineering software, specifically LPILE, MathCAD, SAP2000, Risa3D, MFAD, Shaft, and spMats.
  • General knowledge of engineering standards including AISC Steel Construction Manual, ACI 318, ASCE 7 and 113, and IBC.
  • Eligibility to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
  • Legally able to work in the United States for any length of time.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, fluent in the English language.
