About the position

Paxon Energy is seeking a skilled and experienced Substation Structural Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in the design, analysis, and optimization of substation structures, ensuring the safety, stability, and reliability of electrical substation infrastructure. As a Substation Structural Engineer, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical and civil engineers, to implement high-voltage electrical projects and deliver sustainable energy solutions. Your expertise will be crucial in the successful execution of transformative projects that shape the future of energy. In this position, you will perform structural analysis, calculations, and simulations to ensure the integrity of substation structures, such as foundations and steel supports. Utilizing engineering software, you will assess load distribution, wind loads, seismic loads, and temperature variations, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards. You will also provide input during the conceptual and detailed design phases, optimizing structural configurations and material selection. Quality assurance is a key aspect of this role, as you will ensure that all designs meet industry standards and perform thorough quality checks on design documentation. Additionally, you will prepare comprehensive technical reports and design specifications, highlighting key calculations and recommendations. Innovation is encouraged, and you will identify opportunities to enhance project efficiency and sustainability. Collaboration with construction teams is essential during the execution phase, where you will address design-related questions and conduct site visits to ensure alignment with approved plans. Staying updated with industry advancements and changes in codes and regulations is also part of your ongoing professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis, calculations, and simulations to ensure the integrity and stability of substation structures.
  • Utilize engineering software to assess load distribution, wind loads, seismic loads, and temperature variations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop efficient and reliable substation designs.
  • Provide input during the conceptual and detailed design phases to optimize structural configurations and material selection.
  • Ensure that all designs and analysis meet relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Perform thorough quality checks and reviews of design documentation to minimize errors and ensure accuracy.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports, design specifications, and drawings for substation structures.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation in substation design, construction methods, and materials.
  • Address complex engineering challenges and provide creative solutions during the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate closely with construction teams during the execution phase and conduct site visits to ensure compliance with design plans.
  • Stay up to date with industry advancements, emerging technologies, and changes in codes and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field with a focus on structural engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural engineering, with a focus on high-voltage substations.
  • Proven experience in the design and analysis of substation structures, including foundations and steel supports.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software such as SAP2000, STAAD.Pro, or similar tools.
  • Strong understanding of relevant industry codes and standards, including IEEE, IEC, ASCE, and ACI.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for technical documentation and project coordination.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification in structural engineering is preferred.
