About the position

The Utility Worker-GC position is part of the Electric Operations team at PG&E, responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe and reliable electric service. This role involves various tasks related to electrical and mechanical work, including assisting journeyman electricians and performing general construction duties. The position requires working in diverse environments, including remote locations and around bodies of water, and may involve exposure to various natural hazards. The job is subject to collective bargaining and offers a starting wage of $37.34 per hour, with the potential for increases based on various factors.

Responsibilities

  • Dig trenches and holes in an ergonomically safe manner.
  • Load and unload equipment, material, job site debris and maintain housekeeping according to PG&E's safety standards and procedures.
  • Perform construction work in powerhouses and switch yards throughout the service territory.
  • Use and maintain various hand and power tools and equipment.
  • Follow the direction of their journeyman and/or supervisor.
  • Must be able to read and comply with all required company standards and procedures.
  • Must work in a team environment.
  • Must always work safely as defined by PG&E's safety standards and procedures.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess a High School diploma or GED.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class C California Driver's License (or higher) by Day 1 of hire.
  • Ability to work in all types of weather extremes.
  • Ability to drive safely in all weather and road conditions.
  • Ability to work extended hours, nights, weekends and holidays, and various work schedules.
  • Ability to travel and transfer to a new headquarter upon request at any time; throughout the entire PG&E service territory with no guarantees as to how long you will be away from home.
  • Ability to work in remote work locations with possible exposure to poison oak, snakes, spiders, bees, mosquitoes, ticks and rodents.
  • Must be able to maneuver on steep and/or uneven terrain.
  • Ability to work around high voltage, energized and/or large mechanical rotating equipment.
  • Must be able to wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds over mountainous terrain, dams, canals and/or up stairways and ladders.
  • Must be able to work in a confined space and in elevated areas.
  • Must be able to perform work tasks from ladders, platforms, metal grating, scaffolds and/or ropes.
  • Must be able to work with and/or around bodies of water.
  • Must be able to work with and/or around helicopters.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1-year relevant construction experience.
  • Electrical troubleshooting.
  • Digging/installing conduit above/below ground.
  • Must have a good attitude and to be able to work in a team environment.
  • Must be able to receive and understand written and verbal instruction.
  • Demonstrated experience with basic hand and power tools used in the commercial construction industry.
  • Graduate from an approved PowerPathway Program.
  • Demonstrated experience with mechanical type work such as installation, fabrication, cabling, and/or assembly of equipment or machinery.
  • Military experience.
  • Relevant PG&E experience.
  • Relevant Hiring Hall or Canus experience.
