About the position

The Substitute Kitchen Assistant will fill vacant positions as needed within the Nutrition Services Department. This role involves preparing food for serving, ensuring proper sanitation and health standards, and assisting with inventory and menu preparation. The position is classified as a substitute role, with hours varying by position and scheduled Monday through Friday during the school year.

Responsibilities

  • Performs duties including preparing food for serving such as but not limited to fruit, vegetables, and other menu items as directed by the kitchen lead or other supervisory authority.
  • Ensures that an adult is stationed at the point of service (end of the line).
  • Keeps workstations in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Assists cook with keeping accurate recipes and information for substitutes.
  • Practices all appropriate and mandated sanitation and health standards including maintaining all products to proper temperature and sanitizing equipment and work surfaces to avoid cross contamination of raw foods.
  • Prepares next day menu items, assists in ordering supplies and inventory.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • WSP/FBI criminal history background clearance.
  • Ability to read, write, understand and carry out oral/written directions.
  • Demonstrated ability to do basic mathematic calculations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of district policies, procedures relating to Nutrition Services.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position including occasional lifting (up to a maximum of 40 pounds), reaching overhead, and climbing on ladder or stool as required.
  • Must hold a current valid food handler's permit.
  • Must be first aid certified or able to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
