About the position
The Onsite Learning Guide position at Open Mind School is a part-time, temporary role focused on providing classroom support to students with diverse learning needs. The guide will assist in implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) and engage students in a supportive and inclusive environment. This role is ideal for individuals seeking hands-on experience in education, particularly in special needs settings.
Responsibilities
- Follow an individual education program for the student based on the student's IEP and education plan including positive behavior support plans.
- Keep the child(ren) motivated and engaged.
- Provide support for group, small group, and individual instruction.
- Plan, prepare, and implement lesson plans under the direction of the Inclusion Teacher.
- Support the classroom teacher in daily instruction.
- Help students follow safe and appropriate toileting routines.
- Attend team meetings.
- Assist with providing regular, ongoing, positive communication with parents, including daily or weekly written and verbal reports.
- Support the classroom teacher in maintaining classroom structure and organization.
- Perform administrative tasks as assigned.
- Maintain confidentiality.
Requirements
- Previous paraeducator or special needs experience preferred.
- Leadership skills and interpersonal skills.
- Time management skills.
- Proficiency with writing and communication.
- Good problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work well within teams.
- Background check, current physical examination, negative TB test, and police records check required.
Nice-to-haves
- Register Behavior Technician (RBT) certification (assistance available for certification).
