About the position

This is an on-call position that fills in for absences. Work must be performed onsite and in person. The Substitute Paraeducator (DHH) assists certificated staff in delivering instructional programs by working in specialized areas such as deaf and hard of hearing (DHH). This position adapts and implements educational materials to students' specialized needs. This position monitors students' progress, behavior, and safety. Additionally, this position performs a variety of routine clerical and office tasks supporting teachers and other district staff. Substitutes are guest/casual positions that have reasonable assurance for the remainder of the current academic year or term. Substitutes are required to submit renewal paperwork to maintain their employment each school year. Substitutes fill a variety of temporary vacancies on a day-to-day basis as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist certificated staff in delivering instructional programs for students who are deaf and hard of hearing.
• Adapt and implement educational materials to meet students' specialized needs.
• Monitor students' progress, behavior, and safety.
• Perform routine clerical and office tasks to support teachers and district staff.

Requirements

• Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.
• Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university, or have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university, or completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, or received a passing score on PESB approved assessments.

Nice-to-haves

• Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) is strongly preferred.
• Completed coursework in deaf studies is preferred.
• Experience working with students who are deaf/hard of hearing is preferred.
