About the position

Under general supervision of Regional Site Director and Site Lead Teacher, delivers high quality Early Childhood Development services to children enrolled in site programs, including educational, social, physical, nutritional, and psychological development of children under their care. Communicates with parents on their child's individual progress and maintains records of attendance and educational achievement. Plans lessons, serves meals, and ensures a healthy and safe learning environment for children.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for planning and implementing classroom lessons, conducting meetings and conferences with parents, coordinating activities and events for children, and interacting with the public and providing customer service by phone, email, and in person.
  • Prepare correspondence, reports, and other paperwork required by the early childhood education program.
  • Implement daily classroom lesson plans in accordance with curriculum plan
  • Supervise children while at the site
  • Conduct safety checks and ensure a safe learning environment
  • Prepare breakfast and serve prepared meals for children
  • Clean and sanitize food areas, including dishwashing as needed
  • Help children practice good hygiene, including personal cleanliness and diapering as needed
  • Plan and execute classroom lessons and activities for children
  • Conduct learning and developmental assessments of children
  • Organize and lead physical education activities for children
  • Serve as an interpreter for parents who do not speak English
  • Conduct teacher-parent conferences and home visits, except when restricted by the subbing agency
  • Maintain records of enrollment, attendance, achievement, and other required paperwork, both manual and digital
  • Schedule support and follow through with the developmental screening and ongoing assessment of infants and toddlers
  • Organize and maintain instructional and program supplies
  • Set up classrooms for various purposes and take down classrooms at shared use sites
  • Assist in recruitment of new students and parent volunteers
  • Participate in community events and solicit in-kind community donations to the program
  • Perform diaper changing for children as needed
  • Prep meals for Family Style meal service
  • Supervise Teacher Assistants and provide performance feedback and coaching to aid their development

Requirements

  • This position requires an experienced preschool teacher with knowledge of early childhood education and development theory and practice
  • Must be a team player with outstanding interpersonal skills and good organizational, written, and oral communication and observation skills
  • Basic computer skills are desirable
  • Minimum of 1-3 years experience as a preschool teacher aide or assistant, preferably in a Head Start program
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must show proof of Department of Justice clearance to work with children prior to the start of employment
  • Life scan must be associated with California Community Care Licensing
  • Teacher substitutes must have at minimum 1 a Child Development Teacher Permit or 2 an associate's degree or higher with at least 12 semester or equivalent quarter units in the core early childhood education or child development courses
