About the position

The Substitute Preschool Teacher I is responsible for delivering high-quality Early Childhood Development services to children enrolled in site programs. This role focuses on the educational, social, physical, nutritional, and psychological development of children, while also maintaining communication with parents regarding their child's progress. The teacher plans lessons, serves meals, and ensures a safe and healthy learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement classroom lessons in accordance with the curriculum plan.
  • Supervise children while at the site.
  • Conduct safety checks to ensure a safe learning environment.
  • Prepare and serve meals for children.
  • Clean and sanitize food areas as needed.
  • Help children practice good hygiene, including personal cleanliness and diapering.
  • Conduct learning and developmental assessments of children.
  • Organize and lead physical education activities for children.
  • Conduct teacher-parent conferences and home visits as needed.
  • Maintain records of enrollment, attendance, achievement, and other required paperwork.
  • Schedule and support developmental screenings and ongoing assessments of children's skills.
  • Organize and maintain instructional and program supplies.
  • Set up and take down classrooms for various purposes.
  • Assist in recruitment of new students and parent volunteers.
  • Participate in community events and solicit in-kind donations to the program.
  • Supervise Teacher Assistants and provide performance feedback.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1-3 years' experience as a preschool teacher, aide, or assistant, preferably in a Head Start program.
  • Must have a Child Development Teacher Permit or an associate's degree with at least 12 semester units in early childhood education or child development courses.
  • Valid California Driver's License and proof of auto insurance.
  • Proof of Department of Justice clearance to work with children prior to the start of employment.
  • CPR/First Aid Certificate.
