About the position

The School Nurse Substitute at Oxford Public Schools is responsible for enhancing the educational process of students by addressing health-related barriers to learning and promoting wellness among students and staff. This part-time position involves managing a comprehensive school health program, implementing state-mandated health initiatives, and providing care and health education in the absence of the regular School Nurse.

Responsibilities

• Manage a comprehensive school health program consistent with Massachusetts guidelines and regulations.
• Organize and implement state-mandated programs such as immunization surveillance and screening programs.
• Promote positive safety practices within and outside of school buildings.
• Maintain comprehensive school health records for each student based on nursing assessments and medical information.
• Carry out communicable disease prevention and infection control based on current guidelines.
• Provide medically prescribed interventions, including medication administration and first aid to injured children.
• Collaborate with parents/guardians and students to develop and implement individualized health care plans.
• Document administration of all medications in accordance with District policy and state laws.
• Provide health education to students, families, and school personnel.

Requirements

• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university.
• Current certification in CPR/AED and First Aid.
• One to three years of experience in school, pediatric, or public health nursing preferred.
