About the position

The Substitute Special Education Transportation Assistant at Fallbrook Union Elementary School District plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and effective transportation of special education students. This position is vital for maintaining a supportive and orderly environment during transit, which is essential for the well-being of the students. The assistant will work closely with the assigned bus driver to ensure that all students are properly seated according to regulations and the specific instructions outlined in each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP). This includes monitoring the students' behavior and recording any necessary observations as required by the IEP or Behavior Plan. The role may also involve performing related tasks as needed to support the transportation process and the students' needs. The position is part-time, requiring approximately 3.92 hours per day, five days a week, with varying hours based on the transportation schedule. The assistant will be expected to adhere to the Student Year Employee Calendar, which aligns with the school year. This role is not only about transportation but also about fostering a safe and nurturing environment for students with special needs during their journey to and from school. The assistant will be an integral part of the transportation team, ensuring that all students receive the support they need while traveling.

Responsibilities

  • Provide needed transportation assistance to special education students.
  • Assure that all students are safely seated according to regulation and/or instructions as determined by the assigned bus driver and in compliance with the student's IEP.
  • Monitor and record student behavior as required in the student's IEP or Behavior Plan to promote an orderly atmosphere in the vehicle during transport.
  • Perform related work as required.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
  • Either an Associate's Degree of Arts (AA) or have completed 48 college/university semester units or pass the FUESD proficiency test for this classification.
  • One (1) year of paid or volunteer experience working with children with special needs.
  • Any combination of training and experience that may likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificate.
