About the position
The Substitute Special Population Bus Aide performs intermediate semiskilled human support work in the transportation of pupils to and from school and special events. The work is performed under the regular supervision of the supervisor of transportation and appropriate principals. This position requires the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The job involves climbing, stooping, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, grasping, and repetitive motions. Vocal communication is necessary for conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and visual acuity is necessary for the operation of motor vehicles or equipment, as well as for observing general surroundings and activities. The worker is subject to outside environmental conditions, noise, vibration, and atmospheric conditions, and may be exposed to blood borne pathogens, requiring the use of specialized personal protective equipment.
Responsibilities
- Riding school bus and assisting with picking up and delivering students to/from school.
- Observing mandatory safety regulations for School Bus Drivers/Aides.
- Performing duties to help the Bus Driver with the safe transportation of students.
- Observing and assisting with the transportation needs of Special Population students.
Requirements
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
- Possession of or ability to acquire an appropriate commercial driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Must pass physical examination as prescribed by the Department of Education of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Must maintain a satisfactory driving record from the Division of Motor Vehicles that meets state requirements and indicates positive driving points.
