About the position

The Substitute Teacher Assistant at Eastern Oregon University plays a vital role in supporting the educational environment for Head Start children. This position involves working cooperatively with staff, parents, and volunteers to meet the diverse needs of children and their families, ensuring a safe and nurturing atmosphere while implementing lesson plans and engaging in various educational activities.

Responsibilities

• Substitute for contracted staff as needed.
• Help maintain a safe, healthy, and emotionally secure learning environment.
• Implement daily lesson plans and follow a consistent schedule.
• Encourage language use, experimentation, exploration, problem solving, cooperation, socialization, and choice-making.
• Contribute to an atmosphere that promotes parental involvement in the classroom.
• Supervise and monitor children at all times.
• Maintain accurate written records, including screening and assessment documentation.
• Maintain open communication with the direct service team, enrolled families, and service providers.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience working with children in a calm, gentle manner.
• Willingness to learn appropriate classroom techniques and strategies.

Nice-to-haves

• CDA or AA in Early Childhood Education preferred.
