About the position

We are now hiring Substitute Teachers to join our Seton Montessori Institute & School community in the beautiful area of Clarendon Hills, IL! This position supports multiple mixed-age Montessori classrooms when staff members are out sick or on vacation. No formal Montessori training is needed to apply. The Substitute Teacher is a great opportunity to get your foot in the door and work with children. Many of our substitute teachers eventually transition into permanent roles. Seton Montessori School (SMS) is located in Clarendon Hills, Illinois, and offers school year and summer camp programs for children from birth through Elementary age. Our scenic six-acre campus, nestled amid a residential setting, provides children with the finest indoor and outdoor environments for learning and growing. Our experienced and dedicated staff helps children develop an awareness of themselves and the world around them. The child works and learns in an atmosphere of balanced independence and structure within a mixed-age group setting. SMS partners with Seton Montessori Institute, one of the largest Montessori teacher education programs in North America, ensuring that our staff practices the most current and progressive teaching methods in an authentic Montessori classroom.

Responsibilities

  • Working in the classroom designated by the school Administrator under the direction of the teacher
  • Ensuring the safety and well-being of all the children
  • Interacting positively in a friendly, calm, and nurturing manner with the children
  • Encouraging and modeling social behavior and expectations appropriate to the age group
  • Assisting the teacher in evaluating each child's progress
  • Attending two professional development opportunities each year

Requirements

  • Strong desire to work with children and make a difference
  • Commitment to learning about Montessori philosophy and education
  • Commitment to continued professional development
  • Ability to collaborate with a dynamic teaching team
  • Physical dexterity and ability to lift children up to 40 pounds
  • High School Diploma or high school equivalence certificate

Nice-to-haves

  • 1 - 2 years of experience working with children
  • Associates or equivalent in any field is a plus
