About the position

The Substitute Teacher position is part of a continuous recruitment effort to fill vacancies within the GST BOCES Region. This role involves meeting the diverse academic, emotional, and physical needs of students, particularly those with special needs, while adhering to state and federal regulations. The teacher will be responsible for creating and implementing lesson plans aligned with New York State standards, assessing student progress, and collaborating with various stakeholders to support student development.

Responsibilities

• Meet the academic, emotional, and physical needs of all students in the classroom.
• Comply with State and Federal regulations.
• Align unit plans and lessons with NYS standards.
• Promote positive and cooperative working relationships.
• Administer standardized tests to assess student strengths and skills.
• Draft annual goals and short-term objectives for CSE meetings.
• Evaluate and re-evaluate short-term objectives regularly throughout the school year.
• Keep anecdotal records on student behaviors for CSE decision-making.
• Adapt and provide educational materials and activities to meet individual student needs.
• Collaborate with related service and support personnel for integrated programs.
• Stay updated on changes in the field through professional development.
• Consult regularly with parents, teachers, and counselors involved in student education.
• Plan and coordinate the teaching assistant's time and evaluate their performance.
• Follow the schedule and procedures of the assigned building.
• Carry out all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Valid NYS Certification in the appropriate area of Special Education.
• Experience working with students with special needs preferred.
• Physical ability to meet the academic, emotional, and physical needs of students, including heavy lifting (50 pounds or more), feeding, assisting with toileting, diapering, physical restraints, escorting, and behavior management.
