About the position

The Substitute Teacher is responsible for creating a flexible instructional program and maintaining a classroom environment conducive to learning and personal growth. This role involves establishing rapport with students, motivating them to develop essential skills, and ensuring continuity in the classroom by following the plans left by the regular teacher. The substitute teacher will also engage with parents, the community, and other staff members to foster a supportive educational environment.

Responsibilities

• Preserve the regular routine of the class and perform all duties of the regular teacher.
• Fulfill any assigned duties of a regular teacher, including bus duty, cafeteria duty, and patrol duty.
• Follow the lesson plans left by the regular teacher unless instructed otherwise by the principal.
• Continue in the assignment until officially released by the principal.
• Prepare a summary of the day's activities for the regular teacher.
• Comply with all instructions given by the principal.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age to work at K-8 school sites and 21 years of age for 9-12 school sites.
• Must attend a substitute orientation before clearance is issued.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• New Mexico Substitute License is required.
