About the position

The Substitute Teacher at CPC Early Childhood Centers is responsible for providing continuity in the classroom during the absence of regular teachers. This role involves assisting lead and assistant teachers, managing classroom behavior, and ensuring a positive learning environment for children aged 1-5. The position requires adaptability, professionalism, and a commitment to fostering a love of learning among students.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction according to plans prepared by the regular classroom teacher.
  • Manage or assist in managing classroom behavior and environment.
  • Maintain line of sight supervision of students.
  • Use appropriate judgment to act in the best interests of students.
  • Maintain a classroom environment that promotes active learning.
  • Follow daily classroom routines, including managing supplies and attendance records.
  • Attend mandatory meetings and trainings.
  • Adhere to CPC Early Childhood Center policies and procedures.
  • Reinforce learning objectives with students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Early Childhood Education college credits preferred.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Experience working with children and knowledge of child development.
  • At least one year of experience in a childcare setting.
  • Experience working with children with special needs preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish or Mandarin/Cantonese preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lift 25-30 lbs.
  • Computer literacy skills.

Benefits

  • $16.00 - $17.00 per hour; employment is on an as-needed basis.
  • Mandatory benefits including paid New York State sick time.
