About the position

The Beverly Levy Early Learning Center is seeking an energetic and dedicated permanent substitute teacher to join our team of early childhood educators. Located on the JCC campus in Woodbridge, CT, our center provides high-quality programs for children ranging from three months to kindergarten age. We pride ourselves on creating a supportive and nurturing environment that promotes the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of each child. Our child-emergent, play-based curriculum encourages experimentation, problem-solving, logical thinking, and cooperative learning, while also fostering the assimilation of values, development of social skills, and positive self-concept. Children are given the opportunity to explore, create, and build in an enriched and stimulating learning environment, ensuring that they receive the best possible start in their educational journey. As a substitute teacher, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the continuity of our programs and ensuring that each child feels safe and valued. You will work closely with the classroom team to maintain an inviting and warm physical environment, plan and implement curriculum that aligns with the Beverly Levy program goals and philosophy, and serve as a positive role model for the children. This position requires a commitment to professional development, including attending workshops, conferences, and mandatory staff meetings, as well as participating in school and classroom events. The ideal candidate will possess strong team-building skills, high ethical professional standards, and a multi-cultural perspective, ensuring that all interactions with children, parents, and co-workers are loving, constructive, and confidential.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a positive role model to children and ensure all interactions are loving and constructive.
  • Work with the classroom team to maintain an inviting and warm physical environment.
  • Plan and implement curriculum to support Beverly Levy program goals and philosophy.
  • Attend workshops and conferences for professional development.
  • Attend mandatory staff meetings and all Beverly Levy Open Houses.
  • Assist in the planning and attending of Beverly Levy school and classroom events.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance, representing a positive public image of the JCC.

Requirements

  • Must love children and be warm, nurturing, patient, and flexible with a willingness to learn.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, but a minimum of an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education will be considered.
  • Minimum one year of experience in a classroom setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an active school environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with fellow teachers.
  • Ability to ensure all interactions regarding the children to their parents and co-workers are both professional and confidential.
  • Physical ability to perform the needed functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Possess or have a willingness to obtain child/infant First Aid, CPR, and medication training as required by the state of CT.
