About the position

Beacon Day School (BDS) is seeking a dedicated Substitute Teacher for its Special Education program, focusing on students with autism and related disorders. The mission of BDS is to be a center of research, learning, and sharing of evidence-based practices, ensuring that students receive integrative educational care in a safe and nurturing environment. The Substitute Teacher will play a crucial role in delivering specialized academic services directly to students, collaborating with parents and the IEP team to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Collaboration with school personnel and parents is essential, as the Substitute Teacher will participate in case conferences and maintain regular communication regarding students' academic progress. The position also involves completing IEPs and reporting to the IEP team, highlighting the importance of excellent management skills given the high student-to-staff ratio of 3:1, which includes a significant number of aides and support staff. Responsibilities

  • Develop lesson plans and instructional material according to BDS academic curriculum requirements and procedures.
  • Implement and maintain treatment/intervention plans for students.
  • Collaborate with school personnel and parents on educational and behavioral services plans.
  • Participate in transporting students as needed.
  • Complete IEPs and report to the IEP team.
  • Support the CEO and collaborate with administrative staff under the direction of the CEO.
  • Serve as a professional resource and model behavior to classroom staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 30-day substitute teaching certification or eligibility for intern certification.
  • Experience in teaching or working with students with autism and related disorders.
