About the position

The Substitute Teacher at H. Kenneth Kirchner School is responsible for developing and directing the special education program for students with disabilities. This part-time position requires the implementation of individualized education programs (IEPs) and adapting teaching strategies to meet the unique needs of each student. The role involves collaboration with IEP teams, maintaining a safe learning environment, and ensuring effective communication with students and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement appropriate individualized education programs for students with disabilities.
  • Analyze students' learning styles and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Choose age-appropriate and safe activities and materials for students.
  • Integrate related services into daily instructional activities.
  • Conduct IEP team meetings and special education coordination.
  • Design and implement behavioral support plans for students with challenging behaviors.
  • Develop communication systems for students as needed.
  • Maintain an instructionally efficient daily schedule for IEP implementation.
  • Direct daily activities of teacher aides and classroom support staff.
  • Follow specific health care procedures for students as required.
  • Maintain a safe and respectful environment for all students.
  • Communicate effectively in written and oral forms.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information.
  • Complete required reports accurately and on time.
  • Develop a professional development plan as needed.
  • Collect assessment data to improve student learning.
  • Assist with daily self-care needs of students, including toileting and feeding.
  • Lift and move students as necessary for care and repositioning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Eligible for a Missouri Substitute Teacher's Certificate with a minimum of 60 semester hours from an accredited institution or possess a Missouri Teaching Certificate.
  • Ability to maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certification as specified by MSSD.
  • Experience using Microsoft Word and Outlook, and knowledge of assistive technology devices.

Benefits

  • Hourly pay of $18.57.
