About the position

The Substitute Teacher position at Maple Valley School involves developing and directing the special education program for students with disabilities. The role requires the implementation of individualized education programs (IEPs) and adapting teaching strategies to meet the specific educational needs of students. This part-time position is essential for maintaining a safe and effective learning environment for students with special needs.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement appropriate individualized education programs for students with disabilities.
  • Analyze students' learning styles and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Choose age-appropriate and functional activities and materials for students.
  • Integrate related services into daily instructional activities.
  • Conduct IEP team meetings and special education coordination.
  • Design and implement behavioral support plans for students with challenging behaviors.
  • Develop communication systems for students.
  • Create and follow a daily schedule for IEP implementation.
  • Direct daily activities of teacher aides and classroom support staff.
  • Follow specific health care procedures for students as needed.
  • Maintain a safe environment for students.
  • Communicate effectively in written and oral forms.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information.
  • Complete required reports accurately and on time.
  • Collect assessment data to improve student performance.
  • Assist with daily self-care needs of students, including toileting and feeding.
  • Lift and move students as necessary for care and repositioning.

Requirements

  • Eligible for a Missouri Substitute Teacher's Certificate with a minimum of 60 semester hours from an accredited institution or possess a Missouri Teaching Certificate.
  • Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook, and assistive technology devices.
  • Maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.
