About the position

The Substitute Teacher for Nursery - Eighth Grade classrooms at Bank Street plays a crucial role in maintaining the continuity of education during the absence of regular teachers. This position requires a dedicated individual who can step into various classrooms and provide effective instruction and support to students across different grade levels. The Substitute Teacher will be responsible for meeting and instructing assigned classes at designated times, ensuring that the learning environment remains conducive to effective learning. This includes supervising students during lunch, rest, and recess, as well as assisting with classroom setup and cleanup, and performing clerical tasks as needed. In addition to the core responsibilities, the Substitute Teacher must take all necessary precautions to protect students, materials, equipment, and facilities, particularly in light of health and safety regulations during the ongoing pandemic. This includes adhering to guidelines such as mask-wearing and social distancing. The role also emphasizes collaboration with other educators and staff to support the children being covered, fostering a cooperative and reflective approach to teaching. The position is open to substitutes specializing in various subjects, including Elementary Music, Physical Education, Art, Spanish, Library, and Movement, highlighting the diverse needs of the school community. Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with other colleagues and educators in support of the children being covered

Requirements

  • High School diploma required
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Experience managing a classroom and teaching children preferred
  • Experience with progressive education preferred
  • Willingness to collaborate and work as part of a team
  • Ability to develop skills in working with individual children, small groups, and the whole class
