About the position

Woodward Academy is seeking a dedicated Substitute Teacher to join our team at Woodward North. This role is essential in maintaining the continuity of education in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The Substitute Teacher will be responsible for helping students learn the subject matter and skills required for scheduled lessons, ensuring that meaningful instruction is provided in assigned classrooms. This position is not only about delivering lessons but also about creating a supportive and engaging learning environment that caters to the diverse needs of our students. The Substitute Teacher will carry out a program of study as prescribed in the lesson plans left by the classroom teacher. This includes creating a classroom environment conducive to learning, guiding the learning process towards achieving curriculum goals, and developing instructional methods and materials that meet lesson objectives. The role also involves maintaining a neat and orderly classroom, taking attendance, and being familiar with school procedures and regulations, including emergency evacuation routes. Additionally, the Substitute Teacher may be required to perform other related duties as directed by the principal, such as lunchroom duty and hall monitoring. Responsibilities

  • Carries out a program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by the classroom teacher.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives as indicated in the lesson plans for the lessons, units, or projects assigned.
  • Develops instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives.
  • Maintains a neat and orderly classroom, including straightening chairs, tables, and clearing chalkboards.
  • Takes attendance following school procedures.
  • Familiarizes with school procedures and regulations, including emergency evacuation routes for the classrooms assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as directed by the principal, such as lunchroom duty and hall monitoring.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in education or a related field.
  • Teaching experience preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to read and interpret documents and write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding and carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Competency with basic word processing, spreadsheets, and the Internet.
