About the position

The position involves maintaining a positive learning environment and responding to the individual needs of students. The individual will implement effective lessons in the absence of the regular instructor and ensure that district policies are observed during all activities. A key responsibility is to create a safe classroom environment that is conducive to learning, keeping all children in the classroom under supervision at all times. Familiarity with emergency procedures such as fire exits, fire drill procedures, and severe storm and tornado warnings is essential. The individual will also review notes for the day, take attendance, and follow the lesson plans of the teacher. Confidentiality as defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) must be maintained. The role requires good judgment and appropriate language or behavior while on assignment, and the individual is expected to report for duty 30 minutes early and remain on duty for the entire assignment, including the planning time of the teacher.
