About the position
The Substitute Teacher at Rural Alaska Community Action Program Inc. plays a crucial role in supporting the Head Start/Early Head Start Program by filling in for various teaching positions. This role involves implementing federal and state regulations, maintaining a safe and nurturing environment for children, and ensuring compliance with safety and sanitation guidelines. The Substitute Teacher works collaboratively with staff and parents to foster a respectful and culturally sensitive atmosphere while managing necessary paperwork and attending training sessions.
Responsibilities
- Implement and support all applicable Federal and State regulations including Rural CAP Policies and Procedures and Head Start Performance Standards.
- Maintain a safe, healthy, nurturing environment for children using Active Supervision principles.
- Ensure confidentiality regarding information about children, families, and staff members.
- Follow safety and sanitation guidelines diligently.
- Support respectful and culturally sensitive partnerships with parents.
- Collaborate with team members to meet the needs of the Head Start/Early Head Start Program.
- Complete required paperwork accurately and timely.
- Assist other staff as requested by the supervisor.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as applicable.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must pass state and federal background checks, including fingerprints.
- Must attend 15 hours of professional development training annually.
- Must provide a TB screening and basic physical exam within thirty (30) days of hire with follow-up every three (3) years at employee's expense.
- Demonstrated basic level of computer skills necessary for data entry into spreadsheets.
- Responsible work ethic with reliable attendance.
- Ability to manage work time well, prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Ability to establish good rapport with people of diverse cultures and belief systems.

- Experience working in early childhood education or related fields.
