About the position

The Substitute Teacher at Rural Alaska Community Action Program Inc. plays a crucial role in supporting the Head Start/Early Head Start Program by filling in for various teaching positions. This role involves implementing federal and state regulations, maintaining a safe and nurturing environment for children, and ensuring compliance with safety and sanitation guidelines. The Substitute Teacher works collaboratively with staff and parents to foster a respectful and culturally sensitive atmosphere while managing necessary paperwork and attending training sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and support all applicable Federal and State regulations including Rural CAP Policies and Procedures and Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Maintain a safe, healthy, nurturing environment for children using Active Supervision principles.
  • Ensure confidentiality regarding information about children, families, and staff members.
  • Follow safety and sanitation guidelines diligently.
  • Support respectful and culturally sensitive partnerships with parents.
  • Collaborate with team members to meet the needs of the Head Start/Early Head Start Program.
  • Complete required paperwork accurately and timely.
  • Assist other staff as requested by the supervisor.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as applicable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must pass state and federal background checks, including fingerprints.
  • Must attend 15 hours of professional development training annually.
  • Must provide a TB screening and basic physical exam within thirty (30) days of hire with follow-up every three (3) years at employee's expense.
  • Demonstrated basic level of computer skills necessary for data entry into spreadsheets.
  • Responsible work ethic with reliable attendance.
  • Ability to manage work time well, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to establish good rapport with people of diverse cultures and belief systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in early childhood education or related fields.
  • Knowledge of Head Start/Early Head Start policies and procedures.
