About the position

The Substitute Teacher at Jasper Mountain is responsible for providing educational instruction to students in a K-8 private school setting, particularly focusing on those with serious mental health and behavioral issues. This role involves teaching in smaller, multi-age classrooms and following individualized educational plans (IEPs) to support students' unique learning needs. The position requires effective classroom management and collaboration with treatment staff to create a therapeutic learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Teach smaller sized, multi-age classrooms.
• Provide individual, small group, and classroom instruction guided by teacher sub plans.
• Follow individualized educational plans (IEPs) for identified students.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and students.
• Demonstrate the ability to maintain classroom management and work collaboratively with classroom behavior/treatment staff.
• Create a therapeutic learning environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
• Oregon Teaching license or equivalent required.
• Special Education Certification strongly preferred but not required.
• Experience and/or training in child development, particularly regarding the implications of child abuse on learning styles and behavior.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to take feedback from the school Treatment Team.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in teaching students with serious mental health and behavioral issues.
• Training in Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) non-violent crisis intervention.
