About the position

Invictus Academy of Richmond is seeking an On-Call Substitute Teacher for the 2023-24 school year, specifically for middle and high school across all content areas. This part-time position is designed for individuals who are passionate about education and eager to contribute to a high-performing independent public charter school. The role involves delivering lessons and supervising students in the absence of the regular teacher, ensuring that academic rigor and a supportive learning environment are maintained. The substitute teacher will be responsible for teaching lessons for one to five periods per day, depending on the needs of the school. Invictus Academy emphasizes the importance of building authentic relationships with students and their families, fostering a joyful and engaging classroom culture, and encouraging students to take risks in their learning. The school provides two full days of paid training for all substitutes, along with ongoing professional development opportunities throughout the school year. The role requires adaptability, professionalism, and a collaborative spirit, as you will be working closely with students, families, and colleagues. The hours for this position are Monday, Tuesday, and Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and Wednesday and Thursday from 8:00 AM to 2:40 PM, with potential supervision responsibilities during classroom transitions. For planned absences, substitute assignments will be scheduled in advance, while unexpected absences will be communicated by 7:30 AM on the day of the assignment.

Requirements

  • Earned Bachelor's Degree.
  • Valid 30-day Emergency Substitute Permit or other Valid CA Teaching Credential.
  • Ability to meet California Basic Skills requirements.
  • Commitment to providing support for students to meet high academic and behavioral expectations.
  • Adaptability to teach different subjects and grade levels.
  • Professional, warm, and collaborative demeanor with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Ability to start immediately and be available on call.
  • Pass a background check and be free of TB risk factors.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least three years of teaching experience.
