About the position

We are hiring a Substitute Teacher for our Head Start program at ADVOCAP, Inc. This role is essential in providing quality early childhood education to children aged 3-5 in Fond du Lac and Green Lake counties. As a recognized leader in delivering effective anti-poverty and self-sufficiency programs for over 50 years, ADVOCAP is committed to creating opportunities for people and communities to reduce poverty and increase self-sufficiency. The Substitute Teacher will be responsible for teaching a classroom with limited notice, following the curriculum set by the regular Teacher. This position requires a welcoming and friendly personality to ensure comfortability while working with children and families, aligning with our core mission values. The Substitute Teacher will create a warm, safe, stimulating, and organized learning environment for our Head Start children. Responsibilities include planning and developing appropriate curriculum, completing home visits, and conducting parent/teacher conferences as needed. The role also involves preparing children for school readiness and greater success, while providing guidance and support to the Teacher Assistant and Program Aide. Strong communication, planning, team development, leadership, and event organizing skills are essential for this position. The ability to work early morning and evening hours, as well as occasional Fridays and weekends, is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a warm, safe, stimulating and organized learning environment for our Head Start kiddos
  • Plan and develop appropriate curriculum for children in a classroom setting
  • Complete home visits and parent/teacher conferences as needed
  • Prepare Head Start children for School Readiness and greater success
  • Provide guidance and support to the Teacher Assistant and Program Aide
  • Ensure availability to work early morning and later evening hours as well as occasional Fridays and weekends

Requirements

  • BA, BS, or BE in Early Childhood Education required
  • Current DPI teaching license, preferred
  • Ability to empathize with and articulate the needs and circumstances of low-income families
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • CPR certified or willing to obtain
  • Physical/tb/drug screen and comprehensive background check required
  • Reliable attendance and a professional work ethic
