About the position

The Substitute Teacher at Classical Charter Schools of America plays a crucial role in supporting the educational mission of the school by assisting in the delivery of curriculum and fostering a positive learning environment. This part-time position involves working with students in grades K-8, ensuring their safety, character development, and academic success while adhering to the school's mission of effective communication through arts and sciences.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Content Teacher or Teacher Assistant in preparing students for the curriculum and standardized tests.
• Help students develop social skills and contribute to their overall development.
• Assist with morning drop-off and afternoon pickup as required.
• Encourage students to unpack their backpacks and turn in homework promptly.
• Communicate with parents regarding injuries or behavior incidents.
• Accompany students to the office for health checks or to contact parents if needed.
• Take students to and from daily resource classes (art, PE, music, etc.).
• Monitor student behavior during recess and class time to ensure focus on lessons.
• Grade papers and record grades as directed by the teacher.
• Encourage and reward positive behavior among students.
• Make copies of instructional materials as needed.
• Share responsibilities with the teacher for classroom cleanliness and organization.
• Substitute in other classrooms as requested by the office or trainers.
• Monitor students during assemblies and ensure safety during drills.
• Attend required training and remain flexible for assignments.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or Certified Teacher preferred for Middle School Substitute Teachers.
• Associate's Degree preferred for Substitute Teacher Assistants.
• Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment.
• Ability to perform clerical duties and operate common office machines.
• Ability to maintain basic files and records.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
