About the position

Ascension Episcopal Day School is seeking Substitute Teachers to assist in creating a nurturing and supportive learning environment for preschool children aged 6 weeks to 5 years. This part-time position offers flexible hours between 7:30 am and 6:00 pm, depending on the school's needs. The role involves engaging with children, maintaining a safe classroom, and supporting their cognitive, social, physical, and emotional development.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of a safe and stimulating classroom environment.
  • Follow staff policies to ensure healthy and safe practices with the children.
  • Clean classrooms, including sterilizing floors, toys, and surfaces at the end of the day.
  • Assist in implementing curriculum conducive to the development of young children.
  • Engage students in activities that encourage curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving.
  • Model appropriate behavior management techniques using positive guidance principles.
  • Record daily classroom records and student head counts.
  • Work cooperatively as a team member and attend staff meetings.
  • Participate in staff development opportunities and stay updated on child development practices.
  • Maintain open and friendly relationships with each child's family.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in a child care setting is necessary.
  • Knowledge of early education teaching methods and child development theory is preferred.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations is essential.
  • Professionalism, teamwork, and reliability are required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in early childhood education is a plus.
  • Knowledge of positive guidance techniques is beneficial.
