About the position

The Substitute Teacher is responsible for maintaining a positive learning environment and responding to the individual needs of students. This role involves implementing effective lessons in the absence of the regular instructor and ensuring that district policies are observed during all activities. The Substitute Teacher must create a safe classroom environment conducive to learning and keep all children in the classroom under supervision at all times. Familiarity with fire exits, fire drill procedures, severe storm and tornado warning procedures is essential. The Substitute Teacher is also responsible for reviewing notes for the day, taking attendance, and following the lesson plans of the teacher. Confidentiality must be maintained as defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). The ability to adapt to circumstances, exhibit good judgment, and use appropriate language or behavior while on assignment is crucial. The Substitute Teacher is expected to report for duty 30 minutes early and remain on duty for the entire assignment, including the planning time of the teacher.

• Leave detailed notes for the teacher on any issues experienced during the day.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED
• At least 20 years of age
