About the position

The Substitute Teacher position at Eastern Oregon University is a temporary, part-time role focused on creating a safe and nurturing learning environment for preschool children. The teacher will work closely with a Teacher Assistant to facilitate school readiness and social competence through various educational experiences tailored to the developmental stages of the children.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain a safe, healthy, emotionally secure learning environment.
  • Meet individual needs of all children, including those at risk, with special needs, gifted, and culturally diverse.
  • Integrate all Head Start components into classroom activities.
  • Utilize lesson plans to provide a balance of adult-directed and child-initiated activities.
  • Follow a consistent schedule that includes one-on-one time, small and large group experiences, choice time, music and movement, large and small motor activities, skill development, two meals, and effective transitions between activities.
  • Encourage language use, experimentation, exploration, problem solving, cooperation, socialization, and choice making.
  • Work with other staff in planning and preparing for class time.
  • Provide an atmosphere that promotes and reinforces parental involvement in the classroom.
  • Supervise and monitor children at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, healthy environment through daily and weekly cleaning of the classroom.
  • Maintain Adjunct timesheet entered into webtime through EOU Mountie Hub by date due.
  • Maintain open and ongoing lines of communication within the direct service team.
  • Input education documentation, when assigned.

Requirements

  • CDA, Associate, bachelor's or advanced degree in early childhood education, or a degree in a field related to early childhood education and experience teaching preschool children.
  • Compliance with federal law for identity and eligibility verification to work in the United States.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education/Development or a related field with a minimum of 6 college-level classes focusing on Early Childhood Education/Development.
  • Experience in a preschool classroom and prior registration with the Central Background Registry.
  • Knowledge of Conscious Discipline.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $22.00-$25.05 per hour depending on experience.
