About the position

Ulster BOCES is seeking Substitute Teachers for assignments during the 2024-2025 school year. The role involves working with elementary and/or secondary education students, and candidates with prior experience in these educational settings are preferred. Fingerprinting is a requirement for this position. The daily rate of pay for this role is $143.00. The Substitute Teacher will be responsible for helping students develop essential skills and knowledge that contribute to their growth as mature, capable, and responsible individuals. This includes meeting and instructing assigned classes at designated locations and times, planning a program of study that aligns with individualized education plans, and maintaining written lesson plans that establish clear objectives for all lessons. The teacher will employ various instructional techniques and media that cater to the physical limitations of the classroom and the needs of the students. Creating a conducive classroom environment is crucial, as is taking necessary precautions to protect students and materials. The Substitute Teacher will assist in implementing school policies and rules governing student conduct, develop reasonable classroom behavior rules, and maintain order in a fair manner. Regular assessment of student performance and providing progress reports are also key responsibilities. The teacher will administer and score State Education Department assessments and collaborate with other staff members to address students' health, attitude, and learning challenges. Accurate record-keeping is essential, and the teacher must be available to students and parents for educational purposes outside of instructional hours when necessary. The role may also involve planning and coordinating assignments for teaching assistants and volunteers, selecting instructional materials, participating in curriculum development, and striving to improve professional competence through attendance at staff meetings and committees. Other duties may be assigned by the Supervisor as needed.

  • Selects and requisitions instructional materials and supplies.
  • Participates in curriculum and developmental programs as required.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on committees as required.
  • Assumes other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with elementary and/or secondary education students preferred.
  • Fingerprinting required.
