About the position

The Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Field Technician II position at T2 Utility Engineers involves working in the field to locate and designate utilities using advanced technologies. This role offers on-the-job training and opportunities for career advancement within the utility locating industry. The technician will operate various equipment, conduct utility investigations, and assist with data collection while ensuring safety and compliance with operational standards.

Responsibilities

• Operate SUE utility locating and designating equipment, including pipe and cable locators, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), and non-destructive vacuum excavation.
• Complete detailed accurate daily reports, forms, and field sketches, both electronically and by hand.
• Conduct utility investigations using tools and equipment such as jackhammers, pogo-tampers, concrete saws, and vacuum hoses.
• Drive commercial motor vehicles (CDL not required).
• Perform safety set-up and maintenance of traffic operations under the supervision of senior field staff.
• Assist with survey and data collection tasks to support overall crew activities.
• Perform daily routine maintenance of equipment and basic vehicle maintenance.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• 4+ years of experience in the utility locating industry or as a SUE Field Technician
• Ability to read and interpret utility company prints and design plans
• Valid driver's license with a good driving record
• Ability to pass a pre-employment physical (U.S. only)
• Ability to obtain a DOT medical card for CMV operation (U.S. only)
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform physical movements necessary to operate heavy tools and equipment
• Ability to work outdoors in all climates
• Good oral and written communication skills and attention to detail
