About the position

The SUD Counselor at The Recovery Center of Ohio is a part-time role focused on providing essential alcohol and drug counseling, assessment, and referral services to clients dealing with substance use and co-occurring disorders. The position emphasizes a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach, ensuring that clients receive the necessary support in their treatment and recovery journey. The counselor will conduct screenings, assessments, and facilitate intensive outpatient groups, all while adhering to the agency's mission of helping individuals reclaim their lives from addiction.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct screening interviews to determine the need for drug and alcohol assessments and emergent care services.
  • Perform confidential assessments using ASAM Placement criteria and the Addiction Severity Index to determine appropriate levels of care.
  • Utilize a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach to collaborate with clients and team members.
  • Provide clinical consultation to referral resources, mentors, family members, and others to support clients' recovery.
  • Engage clients in the decision-making process regarding their treatment and care.
  • Collect and review referral information to support coordination of services and scheduling of client interviews.
  • Coordinate with the Intake Coordinator to confirm appointment details with clients.
  • Collect information from collateral resources to aid in diagnosis and treatment needs.
  • Conduct IOP groups as directed from Monday through Friday.
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external policies, procedures, and regulations.

Requirements

  • Active CDCA/LCDCII/LCDCIII/LICDC licensure from the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board.
  • Strong interpersonal and engagement skills.
  • Organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with documentation in EHR.
  • Ability to support the agency's mission and demonstrate sensitivity to cultural diversity.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Social Work or Counseling.
  • LPC, LSW, LMFT licensure by the Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapy Board.
  • One year of experience in addictions counseling and/or mental health counseling.
