About the position

The SUD Peer Support Specialist at GLIDE is responsible for providing peer support services to individuals with mental illness and/or substance abuse disorders. This role emphasizes service connection, case management, and recovery coaching to promote overall wellness. The specialist will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring clients are aware of available services and opportunities, and will facilitate group sessions to foster social connection and empowerment. The position requires both office and community engagement, with a focus on marginalized communities in San Francisco.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage a caseload of 10 clients using a trauma-informed, client-centered approach.
  • Conduct initial intake screenings, brief assessments, service plans, and timely progress notes.
  • Identify clients' strengths and barriers to assist in reducing challenges and connecting them to resources.
  • Facilitate and coordinate 2 groups or workshops per day that reflect client needs and promote a growth mindset.
  • Cultivate supportive relationships with clients to provide continuous recovery support and document services rendered.
  • Continuously assess clients' barriers and provide interventions to ensure needs are met.
  • Engage in service integration and assist the multidisciplinary team with direct services and crisis intervention.
  • Adhere to professional boundaries, ethics, and regulatory practices, including HIPAA compliance.
  • Participate in professional development and complete required training hours.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years in case management of high-risk populations or a bachelor's degree in social work/psychology with 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience working with socially and/or economically marginalized populations.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills and ability to de-escalate situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including drafting detailed documentation.
  • Group facilitation skills and ability to perform low threshold case management services.
  • Knowledge of San Francisco resources and benefits programs related to substance use treatment recovery.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail in documentation and client database updates.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.

  • Peer Support Specialist certification
  • Registered substance use disorder counselor certification
  • Bilingual proficiency in Cantonese, Spanish, Vietnamese, or Farsi
  • Experience with Salesforce and ONE System databases.
