About the position
The Library Assistant I position at Calcasieu Parish Public Library focuses on collection management and providing branch services. Responsibilities
- Discharges and sorts returned materials.
- Efficiently and accurately shelves materials.
- Empties book drop and reads assigned shelves.
- Processes magazines and newspapers.
- Receives and processes in-transit items for holds and shelving.
- Receives donated materials and resolves issues with materials.
- Provides friendly and efficient customer service.
- Performs circulation transactions, including charging and discharging materials.
- Handles patron complaints and concerns.
- Assists with branch programming and maintains branch orderliness.
- Participates in learning and development activities to improve job skills.
- Communicates effectively with library staff and patrons.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of library principles, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.
- Good public relations and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to utilize a variety of library technologies, software, and hardware.
